The NCATE-accredited Teachers College is the oldest of the university's colleges, and remains one of Indiana's most successful, productive producers of schoolteachers and administrators. Ball State's online Ed D in Educational Administration and Supervision degree program gives students the credentials they need to take on the highest level of administrative duties. In fact, the program is tailored to satisfy Indiana's superintendent licensing requirements, so graduates are completely equipped to take the school administrator CORE exam. This 90 credit Ed. D degree program can be taken entirely online, and a dissertation is required. The University of Missouri is the university of pioneers. The first public university west of the Mississippi River, the institution they call Mizzou was founded in to bring the Enlightenment-era principles of education to the frontier.

Missouri was also a pioneer in teacher education. MU's College of Education was founded in , though it was proposed even earlier, in , and it was a rarity at the time.
